Beluga Commute — Privacy Policy

**Last Updated:** May 2026

## What We Collect

When you use Beluga Commute, we store:

- **Your Alexa device user ID** — a unique identifier assigned by Amazon, used to retrieve your saved locations

- **Addresses you save** — specifically, your home and work addresses if you choose to save them

- Nothing else

We do not collect:

- Your account name, email, or any personal contact information

- Your usage history or frequency of queries

- Audio recordings or transcripts

- Device location, IP address, or browser data

- Payment information (handled entirely by Amazon Alexa)

## How We Use Your Data

Your saved addresses are used solely to:

- Retrieve commute times when you ask for them

- Suggest default origin/destination in responses (e.g., "From your home to Tower Bridge...")

When you ask Beluga for a commute time, HERE Maps API receives:

- Origin location (text only, e.g., "King's Cross")

- Destination location (text only, e.g., "Monument")

- Your user ID is **never** shared with HERE Maps

## How We Store Your Data

Saved addresses are stored in AWS DynamoDB with encryption at rest. Access is restricted to the

Beluga Commute backend service running on AWS Lambda.

## Data Retention and Deletion

Saved locations are retained for as long as you use the skill. You can delete any saved location

at any time by saying:

- "Alexa, ask Beluga to clear my home"

- "Alexa, ask Beluga forget my work"

When you delete a saved location, it is removed from DynamoDB immediately. If you disable or

uninstall the skill from your Alexa account, your data is retained for 90 days then deleted.

## Third Parties

- **Amazon Alexa:** Manages your device, voice, and skill invocation; see Amazon's privacy notice

- **HERE Technologies:** Provides real-time public transport data; HERE receives only your origin/destination, never your user ID. See HERE's privacy notice

- **AWS:** Hosts the backend infrastructure (Lambda, DynamoDB); see AWS privacy notice

## Your Rights

You have the right to:

- Access your saved locations (ask "Alexa, what are my locations?")

- Delete your saved locations anytime

- Contact us with privacy concerns
